On September 24, 2022 Mia Beach Club will be hosting one of the biggest names in the history of electronic music. Paul van Dyk is a German DJ, record producer, musician and composer who has dominated the electronic music charts and DJ polls since the 1990s. He’s been twice ranked as #1 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ poll, and has performed before audiences of more than one million people.
Paul van Dyk’s career began in the early 1990s, where he quickly gained a reputation as one of the leaders in the trance genre with his production work and DJing. His studio work gained him a lot of attention, starting with his 1993 remix of Humate’s ‘Love Stimulation’.
His 2nd studio album Seven Ways, released in 1996 on MFS, established van Dyk as one of the pioneers of trance. It was a hit in the UK and had the honor of being voted the No. 1 album that year by readers of DJ Magazine.
But it was his hit single ‘For an Angel’ that van Dyk is most famous for. His debut track, initially released in 1994, was reworked and re-released in 1998, where it held the number one spot on the UK Dance Chart for several weeks. “For an Angel” is regarded as one of the most influential trance tunes of all time, voted as the 8th greatest dance record of all time by readers of Mixmag magazine. One of the music videos released to promote this track was filmed in the Riviera Maya. See the link below:
Paul van Dyk has played some massive shows throughout his career, including the Love Parade festival in Berlin and New Year’s Eve in Rio de Janeiro. He’s been regularly booked for huge festivals like Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, Ultra Music Festival and many others
Van Dyk was the first artist to receive a Grammy Award nomination when the awards added a new category for Best Dance/Electronic album for his 2003 release Reflections. He has collaborated with a broad spectrum of talent including Armin van Buuren, David Byrne and St. Etienne.
As a remixer, his choice of projects reads like a who’s who of the upper echelons of the music industry, re-working tracks for big name pop artists like as Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Depeche Mode, and U2.
In 2008, van Dyk collaborated with film composer Hans Zimmer in the creation of the theme song for The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan’s reboot of the Batman franchise. He also wrote the score for EA Games’ Grand Slam Tennis.
But it was his work here in Mexico that would lead to one of his biggest career honors. Van Dyk wrote the score for the Mexican film Zurdo, resulting in his winning an Ariel (Mexican Oscar) for the film’s soundtrack.
Van Dyk is currently the radio host of ‘Vonyc Sessions with Paul’ on Dash Radio.
We hope that you join us on September 24 for what will surely be a night to remember as Paul van Dyk takes us on a unique journey of sound as only he can deliver.
